Well, I don't get it: what do we discuss - or - why? ^^
Hm, ok, I try to enter this topic though I did not really get the meaning. At first: I am to lazy to bring up arguments against your quotation, Bulent Epikur

I have the same point of view like malone and the other defenders of learning - and learning from - history. I definitely agree with the quotation:
"If we do not learn the lessons of history, we are forced to repeat them"
Though it sums up my opinion nearly perfect, I want to add something. Because there are not only mistakes, which we shouldn't do and some we mustn't do again. From history we learn the reasons for big mistakes. And this is why it isn't necessary that exactly the same situation faces us again. We don't learn a programm for how to handle with politics and other big things from history. But we learn, how people get into problems so that we can go further and protect us against all things, which could get us in difficulties comparible with those of our ancestors. Thats the real meaning and the real benefit for all of us, if we care for history.

PS: well, I think in this game and forum I do not only learn more about economy and politics, I think I can improve my English *lol* great chance, thx
Edit: Yes, I got it XD I just hadn't read the description of this area
I would say the both quotations do not really contradict.
"If we do not learn the lessons of history, we are forced to repeat them" and
Hegel was right when he said that we learn from history, that man can never learn anything from history.
Finally we repeat all our failures continuously till now and beyond.
PS: There is not to much to discuss. Each of us has his individual belief to the "history-utilization" and that's it. Nothing evidentiary!

history, when you give consideration and thought, is, when proven, the only subject which can never been changed or disproven without the use of propoganda, unlike english where a word doesnt necessarily have to mean something, duck could mean goose and goose could mean vietnam, and science where nothing truly means anything and all theories and "facts" are just interrperitations of infinite questions which can never truly be answered, math i just a further branch of science and a wierd one since anything can be explained through it although in the end it truly hasnt much meaning since it was only made nessacery by man and anything in it can be proven and disproven at the same time.[/size]
