Concerning the initial quotes...

I know every word of this one, but it seems to make no sense at all:

"If one day the secret of childhood were to become no longer a secret, the state would be able to save immense sums that it spends on hospitals, psychiatric clinics, and prisons maintaining our blindness." Alice Miller

Does she advocate using brainwashing in early childhood to make people obedient and prevent them from behaving insanely, in ways damaging your health or criminally? Or is this some semi-esoteric glorification of childhood?

I cannot understand how anyone can consider hospitals as something bad...

Can someone please parse this for me and tell me what exactly she wanted to say here?

RE: Concerning the initial quotes...

I think it's meant this way:

If we would better understand our children, we could act adequately and a lot of later trouble for them could be avoided. They wouldn't become sick and criminal as result of wrong treatment...

A great dream...
