Drop in Automation

In my State Iran I the Automation index dropped by 25 points from quarter 80 to quarter 81. I can't figure out why. Is someone out there who can explain? Thanks.

RE: Drop in Automation

You cut subsides by 20%, I guess this caused the drop. It also could be a long-term effect of the basic income.

RE: Drop in Automation

I've been cutting subsidies from the beginning as much as possible. So I don't think this is it.

And the BI-reform initially increased automation, which makes sense as it increases the cost of labor. So I don't think this is it either.

Any other guesses?

RE: Drop in Automation

I just took a closer look, it seems that the matrix of your country is crashing (~60% extremists, sharp drop in popularity without any reason). I don’t see any reason why your people should be angry (no starvation, high GDP, good employment situation, no debt crisis).

There is the possibility to set the state back 4-8 quarters since the state is still younger < Quarter 200.

This was caused by the reduction of the basic income by 20%. I have seen this quite often, and written on this topic elsewhere. (In German for example here - see also the lower post in the same thread - and a Benedikt confirmed my observations here)

However, since it is not my usual style to make lazy responses, I write an tl;dr:
If a basic income is introduced for example via reform and reduced in the budget in the following quarters, a rather generic magic border can be encountered. If this border is crossed, ridiculous numbers of extremist between 40 to 100% may appear, despite the fact that all citizens in the affected states usually have way more money on their hands than before (that is in comparison to previous quarters) and the total funds available to each citizen being way above the average costs of living. The effect usually comes to carry 2 quarters after the budget change, as it did in this case. (I never thought about it much, but actually this would indicate that there may be an in-the-middle variable responsible for the effect due to the 2 quarter delay)

Given how severe the effect of the basic income reduction on extremism is, one could speculate that the tiny drop in automation is a weird, but not so noteable side effect. I'd bet 10 coins it would not occure again if PE basic income would remain untouched.

RE: Drop in Automation

Thanks. This seems plausible. I thought the unhappiness could also have been triggered by 3 unsolved urgent tasks. Since I have solved them now, I was hoping it would disappear again next quarter. So, still flaws in the BI-reform although some changes to the positive have been made, for example PE welfare is simultaneously reduced significantly. Before the BI was just added to the existing welfare state instead of replacing it.

Wonderful analysis! Thanks MrProper, I wasn't aware that cutting basic income even a bit could cause a crash like that (although in general I try to avoid cutting spending, the costs of negative effects are to high. It is better to just slowly raise taxes while keeping the spending on the same level).

The state crashed this quarter, and due to the reason (cut in basic income) it could be eligable for a reset.

RE: Drop in Automation

You yourself can not do that; This functionality is only available to optimus rex, Malone and Benedikt Magnus. Given that TLS already pointed out the Ex gratia policy which is usually applied in similar situation, I take it that he made a comment in the superuser only section of the forum and that someone will take care of that matter soon.
