It really is a shame for Germany that we sent a person to the European Commission who is hardly able to talk english. However, our whole goverment is sort of a shame..

RE: English is becoming more and more important

Actually that is embarrassing. Most of all for himself.

I guess sending someone to the EU should involve testing if he is able to actually understand a word the guys writing his stuff have written. He stumbles over words which are easy to speak ("does" is my favorite) and which are learned even in elementary school in Germany today.

He is not even old enough to make the excuse of not speaking a word of English, being 56 he should really try to improve on that scale or everyone will look just like the guy on the right in the video - ashamed for Oettinger.

But - and there he's got a point - English becomes more and more important but still we should not forget our own language, that would just lead to a pretty boring world.

RE: English is becoming more and more important

Damn, I self have some problems with English.
Or is it My-self have a few problems with the English language
or I have my-self some problems with English?
Or just better say:
English is difficult for me too.

Most time it seems to be(dont know how to use seem correct and in which cases it is possible, so better change "seems to be" here with "is". Or is it used correct? Is some native speaker here to answer?) the best thing to think about an totally other way to say it, if we do not know how to translate.

The next hard thing for me is the pronunciation. And the word "pr-pr-pro-nu...something" is some of the hardest words I know to be said in the correct sound. I know it because I tried sometimes to give my teacher a hint in English what's my problem.

I am searching for (some) opportunities to practice.

RE: English is becoming more and more important

The global trends are very much pointing toward English becoming a universal language but I'd prefer it if nations kept their national languages instead of going exclusively English in the next few decades.

It is "I, myself, have some problems with English". It is far simpler just to say "I have trouble with English" however.
