Is this the politics of the "Moral Majority"?

Tennessee Republican tells girl her father has to be deported as tea party crowd cheers

A Tennessee tea party Republican congressman told a frightened little girl at a town hall meeting on Thursday in Murfreesboro, TN that laws are laws and that her undocumented father is going to have to be deported. According to ProgressivePopulist.org, 11-year-old Josie Molina told Rep. Scott Desjarlais ® that she has papers but her father does not.

During a question and answer session at the meeting, Molina stepped up to the microphone and, with a quavering voice, asked, “Mr. DesJarlais, I have papers, but I have a dad who’s undocumented. What can I do to have him stay with me?”

Rather than make any attempt to assuage the girl’s fears, Desjarlais said, “Thank you for being here and thank you for coming forward and speaking,” but “the answer still kind of remains the same, that we have laws and we need to follow those laws and that’s where we’re at.”

The tea party crowd whooped and applauded wildly as the little girl took her seat, head down. Progressive Populist reported that Josie Molina’s father is currently in the process of being deported and that the girl is seeing a child psychologist in order to cope with the stress and anxiety.

Desjarlais is a former physician and anti-choice crusader who was fined $500 by the Tennessee Board of Medical Examiners after it came to light that he had engaged in multiple extramarital affairs with female patients. When one woman became pregnant, the staunch anti-abortion conservative pressured her into terminating the pregnancy. Another patient charged that Desjarlais prescribed narcotic painkillers to her for recreational use and frequently smoked marijuana with her.

“I know God has forgiven me” for the transgressions, Desjarlais told a conservative radio host in an interview in December of 2012.

Am I the only who thinks it's weird that the Tea Party, the very same group that claims to fight for a return to the principles that led to the American Revolution and the founding of the United States of America, that very same Union that originated from the idea of and portrayed itself as "the melting pot of nations", this great, chaotically-organized experiment that has proven cosmopolitan and egalitarian assumptions as well as ideals to all generations that may follow, actually advocated for the deportation of the care-taker of one of their own fellow citizens, supports a wall between itself and the world, has forgotten their roots from which their ancestors came from and support a policy that seems to be based on the view that the world is a gift to 'Merica rather than on the past's inspirational proclamation that the Liberal Advancements of the American Revolution are a gift to the World?

I hate to correct the English of the English, but that's one hell of a run-on sentence.

Oh you know, I like them long ones... (no you dirty-minder, I mean sentences!)

If you constantly have to deal with people who tell you that they want an one-sentence-explanation you'll get used to them sooner or later.
thinking about it, it's weird that I forgot "it's weird" in the first line.

anyway, what do you mean by "correct the English of the English?

Correcting an Englishman's use of the English language always seems ironic to me. Smile

What if I told you that I am not British and that English is not my mother tongue? Cool

Anyway, besides the length, was there anything wrong with it?

Ah, okay, sorry for having made an incorrect assumption Smile

Well, breaking into smaller sentences is the most helpful advice I can offer. That makes it easier on the reader.

No need for apologizing. I don't care a single bit about my nationality and believe that doing so is in fact quite stupid and that the concept of nationality will eventually become a laughed-at chapter in the history books for teach primary school children how naïve and primitive the people of their past have been.

you didn't go to University, did you? My personal record is a sentence 1 and a half pages Long (font size 11) which is nothing compared to this 4 pages sentence I once came across Hehe

Well, in any event, the behavior of this Congressman strikes me as appalling. And the behavior of the crowd, cheering him on as he told an 11 year old girl that her father has to be deported, was chilling.
