Northern Ireland thread

I hope this thread will be a good discussion piece of this forum.

I believe that we should just Wall off (in the sense of Border control) Northern Ireland from the Rest of Ireland and treat Ireland as any other country, so no-more automatic dual citizenships for people in Ireland.

That way it should stop further conflicts.

The Ulstermen in Northern Ireland want to be part of the UK, I see no reason why they cannot.

Your thoughts....

RE: Northern Ireland thread

i see not the sense of a wall.
The South Irish is not the problem.
Its still the rivality between the protestant and
the catholiks in North. And that will not End if you privilege
one side ( Ulster) of them .

Sectarianism is a problem yes, but it will help to treat Ireland as any other country with Border Controls, I know people who were in the UVF who stopped what they were doing as they realised the fight between Catholics and Protestants is pointless, however it has morphed into Loyalism vs the Marxism of the IRA.

The answer is simple - abolish single faith schooling. Do that and the troubles disappear in a generation.

True, the battle between Protestants and Catholics is largely over, It's sad really, Kin vs Kin slaughtering themselves.

It's now Loyalists vs Marxist IRA, If I had to choose a side it would be Loyalists.

And the Ulsteman in Northern Ireland who don't?

My opionion, have a referendum and let those communities with a majority for Irish unity join the Republic of Ireland. The rest can stay in the UK. Then far more people would have what they want than now. This will drive down support for organisation that support violence even more.

There have been referenda's and they want to be part of the UK, if people want to be part of the ROI then move there.

It's like me and my family settling in Japan and demand that our area be under British Jurisdiction.

Considering the two groups of people are virtually the same (Northern Ireland and ROI), that isn't exactly true is it?

The Majority there want to be British, You want to deny them that?

I say just treat ROI as any other country, problem solved.
