|edit|: Also, the war completely discredited our military forces. Nowdays, the military is being treated as scum by a bunch of pro-government (and corrupt to the core) "activists" which claim to fight for their 'missing children'. (Now, while I am not in favour of death-squads and stuff, it is to be recognized that ~98% of the Junta's targets were aligned or part of Communist guerrillas). Also, some of them are known to be alive and rich.

Ha-ha, you are speaking here like an archetypal fascist. Applaus

What puzzles me is the applause emoticon at the end. It seems as if he Lord Alexander was either praising my statement, or sarcastically condemning it.

Hmm sounds conspiracy. How e.g. fit the Mirage jets in that ? Kopfkratz

It may have been, I do not know for sure. It certainly looked like one... Today our politicians brag about being a 'Democratic Nation', while keeping parasitic welfarist policies and mismanage nation resources.

Well than we will have to wait and see Kopfkratz

Can you give me a example ,
im not shure what you mean ?

For example: For the war to be won we did not need more than 10.000 men. We had an entire, professional and well-equipied division that could have been at odds with the British. Instead, the military sent barely equipied and hastly organized conscripts (and even still they fought to their best).

Well i never find a source about the Army at this period ,
I only find theories ,that the junta fear more an border war
with Chile than an counterattack of Britain .

Can you tell me more ?

The "Abuelas Plaza de Mayo" ("Granmothers of May Street [or Park]") are activists against the military, and are very pro-government.
The leader of this organization claims that her grandsons are dead, and that was executed by the military. Empirical evidicence, however, points at them living rather happily (and with good amouts of Capital) in Spain.

Thats why i always was in doubt with demonstrations.
Theire always is somebody who makes profit beside of it Suspect

Rephrase your "opinion" Globaltom, I'm sure no one here understood it or even perceived it as such.

I am, in all honesty?

If so, then just talk to random people on the street (of Buenos Aires, at least) about what they think about the military.

Proof speaks for itself... Literally, in this case.

I have no opinion about the factual side of your comment, but you are formulated it in such manner that it sounds like a typical attitude of proponents of right-wing state terrorism. It is very hard to take seriously your opinion when you formulate it like this. Smile

@Globaltom: If I read that correctly - Yes, the Junta feared more a war with Chile than with Britain. Even when technically, Argentina was better in morale and resources than Chile.

@Lord Alexander:
Okay, let me rephrase:

The publc perception of the military in my country is very low. This is due to two reasons, mainly: 1] The defeat at the war; and 2] The public statements of these pro-government activists, whom condemn the military as a needless force.

While I am a pro-diplomacy kind of person myself, I recognize that a military force to defend borders is necesary. Alas, not all of the military was in favor of a dictatorship, and were not for continued US aid and support the Junta would have collapsed economically far earlier.

Thank you, now it sounds much better. Previous version sounded almost like the quote from some of Russian proponents of Pinochet. To hear it from you was quite funny. Tongue

Ah! I see.

After all, my country was oppossed to Pinochet... If not ideologically, diplomatically. Wink
