Which system do you favor?

To be fair, I've included some models not traditionally considered in these polls.

Of course, it's impossible to offer very possible system- just pick the one that's closest to your preferred economic model. As a guide, consider anything prior to the agricultural revolution (including pastoralism) to be hunter-gatherer, personality cults to be a form of slave state, fascism to be a form of capitalism, syndicalism to be a form of socialism, anything beginning with the prefix "anarcho" to be a kind of anarchy. If you're not sure where you fall, just make your best guess.

RE: Which system do you favor?

I wouldn't mind Anarcho-Syndicalism or (Chomskyian) Libertarian Socialism.
I wouldn't want to be a hunter or gatherer.
I'd like Feudalism only IF I'm the feudal lord, owing no fealty to anyone else; that way I can take care of my serfs using Free Land. I would entertain no landed aristocrats. Hehe
As for capitalism, I wouldn't mind a market-social economy (Finland, Sweden) so long as it retains post-war full employment mentality & has not embraced neoliberal/neoconservative NAIRU as part of its fiscal policy. As for socialism, I wouldn't favor complete central planning or closed society, loyalty to the state indoctrination etc.
I wouldn't want to live in a slave-state, a la ancient Egypt or Rome, not even as high archon or king.

Which system would be your preferential favorite? You can assume the perspective of anyone you like- common man or elite.

The above poll is anonymous, by the way. You can speak your mind without any fear of repercussion.

I voted Feudalism for the giggles. Hehe
I'd like to see cooperatives over multi-nationals. I'd like to see democratic procedures (even if they're clumsy), over authoritarian procedure. I'd like to have an open society, without discrimination, without poverty, and with social justice and income & employment guarantee - environmentally-aware, promoting new technologies and abandoning antiquated means of production. One race, the human race. One country under the sun, Holy Terra itself.

I picked Hunter-Gatherer. There's times when I watch films about people escaping modern society and going primitive (La Vallee, The Emerald Forest, The Beach, et al) with a wistful desire to do the same. Sure, I like the extended life span that comes with modern development. However, I don't like the hierarchies. The structures which weave the illusion that any one of us is any better than any other strike me as amoral. If we accept the Golden Rule as a basis for morality, how can we not conclude that all life has equal value? Unfortunately, most modern systems do reject that premise, and therefore promote the very worst forms of behavior.

Sometimes I want to escape into nature as well. It would be awesome if we could survive without having to eat (hunt/kill). I don't know if you saw Into The Wild, a drama movie - well worth it.

Mine is not even on the list, but otherwise pretty much what Helsworth said.

Which one is your preference? Perhaps I overlooked something

I haven't, although I read Krakauer's book. Unlike McCandless, I don't want to scape modernity as a solo act. He didn't last long going it alone. I'd rather go with a group of friends. The Barbet Schroeder film La Vallee is much closer to my ideal.

To quote the Dhammapada, "We live happily indeed, though we call nothing our own! We shall be like the bright gods, feeding on sunshine !"

What I wouldn't give to be a tree. Sunshine and water and nitrogen from the soil- no need to kill anything. And you live so much longer

This. Not the modern-day usage of the word. Wink

I would rather be the probervial firebird. Some versions of the myth says it harms no living being, and it flies far to the East and back.

RE: Which system do you favor?

I think it comes to no surprise I prefer Socialism. I took a political test that gave me the best result so far despite the test being pretty flawed as it ended up with only 4 choices but this is how it described me

Quote:
You're on the left and collective quadrant of the political compass! You value the role of big government in providing all citizens with essential services and you believe that government's job is to guarantee equality. You favor higher taxes on the rich and believe in more publicly funded programs for the disadvantaged. You're skeptical of the free market and you think that too much individualism is dangerous. You hold many communitarian values and you support limiting certain individual freedoms for the good of society. You're compassionate, idealistic and deeply dedicated to your community! You're a proud bleeding heart!
